WEATHER UPDATE:

We are going ahead with The Dancing Man Festival outdoor stage at The Commons featuring Doghouse Blues Revue, The Bananafish Dance Orchestra and John Reischman & The Jaybirds despite the rain drops.

There will be warm beverages available along with tents and chairs. If you have a lawn chair and/or an umbrella please bring it along! :):) Grab your gum-boots Gabriola! We're looking forward to a great day of live music and dancing!

The Dancing Man Festival - 2011

The Dancing Man Festival 2011 is underway and we are looking forward to delivering another great season of live musical & dance performances and workshops in our community.

This year's festival will take place on July 15th, 16th & 17th on beautiful Gabriola island, featuring shows at The Roxy, The Theatre Centre and multiple live musical performances on a new outdoor stage at The Gabriola Commons.

The 2011 festival offers a mix of local and visiting talent in a variety of genres including everything from contemporary electronics, blues, funk, bluegrass, Iindian raga and cross-genre contemporary dance-vocal collaboration.

Festival highlights include a workshop series in The Poetry Gabriola Yurt as well as a playful new tradition inspired by the Mardi-Gra style parades of New Orleans - The Lovebomb Art Parade: "Bringing Back The Joy!"- Saturday July 16th at 4pm. The parade will kick off with community workshops for all ages with Missy Nobels and Sharmaine Goldman and will feature large scale puppets by Odette Laramee, the funk fusion of The Bananafish Dance Orchestra,the burlesque stylings of Ginger Kittens and more!!! Come and celebrate our common ground through dance, music and art this summer! We look forward to seeing you soon!
